This difference in compassion satisfaction among MSW program levels might be due to the knowledge obtained by the later stages of the social work educational experience as well as the opportunity to focus on a specialized area of interest. Reliability for each subscale is as follows: compassion fatigue α = 0.81, burnout α = 0.65, and compassion satisfaction α = 0.88. We assessed differences in students’ report of compassion fatigue by the students’ degree program. The human services professionals had significantly higher levels of compassion fatigue (M = 16.53) than social work students (M = 13.84). In addition, further insight might be gained by including a follow-up data collection after the students have completed their degree programs and begun their professional careers.
